10th stage 194km Andorra to Sabadell

Climatic conditions perfect--sunny & warm, favorable wind.

After 41 km of course, escape by Sevilla & group, lead of 1'30" extends to 2'40".

Sevilla
Moreni
Jeker
G. Gonzalez
Mercado

The peloton rolling at goold clip with tailwind, averaging 48km/h, propelled by Fassa Bortolo & Aitor Gonzalez at head, & equally Once team.

At 80km from finish, lead group extends margin to 3'06".

At 65km from line, lead drops to 2'30".

The only real Alto (3rd degree) of the day is passed without change in positions.

At 52 km from finish, lead diminshes to 1'30".

At 45 km from the line the escape group is reigned in.

Kroon attacks, succeeds.

Intermediary sprint:

Kroon-4 pts

Petacchi-2 pts

De Los Angeles-1 pt

Obviously Petacchi looking to score in points competion.

Karsren Kroon alone in front of peloton.

On long gradual descent, Kroon (Rabobank) joined by Zberg & Calvo.

At 22km mark, lead holds stady at 20".

Average speed on descent 70km/h.

At 17 km the group of 3 resisting well, but lead at 15".

At 15 km Zberg surges ahead, Calve drops back.

A small group led by Astarola leaves peloton.

At 9km Perez attacks.

At 5km Perez joins lead group with:

Astarloa
Pradera
Zberg
Martinez
Luttenberger
Zaballa
Berogliatti

Fassa Bortolo seems to have capitulated--perhaps Petacchi not in form after mountains.

Rasmussen & Hincapie counterattack, then reabsorbed by peloton.

Last 5 km very fluid, situation constantly changing.

Several hundred meters from the line lead group, Perez still in front, is caught by peloton.

In the last 200 meter straightaway Petachi emerges in front, but without usual team to bring him forward.

Zabel overtakes Petacchi to win by a clear bike length.

A beautiful victory for Zabel, his first in a major race since 2002 Tour De France.

Petacchi obviously drained from the mountains-- less the case for the more seasoned Zabel.
